The Toronto Islands

What is a Blog, if not for posting stuff about the City and its environs.
So, herewith is some pictures and trivia taken over the years about Ward's Island - which is part of the Toronto Islands.
First of all, you must take one of three ferries to these islands (there are 14 islands in all).

Pictured above, is the Ongiara, an open concept ferry that runs to Ward's.
It is my favourite ride, and is able to carry work vehicles.

As the plaque here explains, these islands are simply a sandbar that was created about eight thousand years ago.

I love wandering around Ward's and admiring the plethora of flowers that appear on the boardwalk and around the cute little cottage gardens.

There are no stores and no cars (transportation).
In 2012, the community planted a tree in memory of Jack Layton (a Jack Pine for Jack).

There is no shortage of artists in this community, as can be seen by the sidewalk mosaic made of pebbles, near the Island Cafe.

Just west of this cafe, is a small garden, looked after by the island residents. Here one can see a few iron sculptures, such as these two dragons.

I am not sure whether the post office picks up anything at this particular mail box on Algonquin Island.

The beach is located at the start of the boardwalk, next to a playground and washrooms. It is the least busy of the three main beaches.
